Dr. Brooks is on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and on the staff of McLean Hospital and is the author of The Self-Esteem Teacher and co-author of Raising Resilient Children and The Power of Resilience.

A Certified Professional Behavior Analyst, she has a degree in communications from Northwestern University and specializes in improving team performance and managing the human side of change. She is the author of Please Stop the Rollercoaster! How Parents of Teenagers Can Smooth Out the Ride.

Beth Fredericks, a popular trainer for Families First in Cambridge, has her M. Ed. in early childhood development. Her areas of expertise include children and families, elder care, wellness, stress management, work/life balance and the multi-generational workforce. She is the author of several publications, including The Parent Guide to Family-Friendly Child Care.

Michael Nerney picture“Understanding the Teenage Brain: A Discussion on Drug and Alcohol Use, Risky Behaviors and Prevention Strategies”

Michael Nerney is a consultant in Substance Abuse Prevention and Education, with over twenty-four years experience in the field. As a teacher, coach and the former Director of the Training Institute of Narcotic and Drug Research, Inc. (NDRI), Mr. Nerney has created and designed prevention programs nationwide. His presentation will include a discussion of adolescent brain chemistry and research on the effects of alcohol and drug use in teens. Mr. Nerney will outline specific, proactive steps, which parents can take to approach risky behavior and to build a clear line of communication with their teen. This is an extremely valuable program for parents and is part of a series of educational programs being provided to students in grades 7-12, faculty and parents in a community-wide partnership amongst the public and private schools of Marblehead.
